The European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force on 25 May 2018. GDPR contains new standards for the protection of individual’s personal data in the European Economic area. The new regulations supercede the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA).
As a result of the new regulations administering authorities are responsible for the personal data held by their LGPS funds. Subsequently, the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead (RBWM), as administering authority to the Royal County of Berkshire Pension Fund, must demonstrate compliance with the GDPR.
