Accessibility Statement for the Royal County of Berkshire Pension Fund website

This website is run by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
This website has not been fully tested against the WCAG Guidelines 2.1. we are in the process of working with our new website provider to fix a number of issues highlighted since going live at the beginning of September 2020. We will then seek further assistance on getting the site fully tested.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard. 

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:

  • Using keyboard to move around some pages can go in unexpected directions and out of focus. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criteria 2.1 (Keyboard), 2.4.7 (Focus Visible) and 3.2.1 (Focus).
  • Screen readers do not identify slider content updates. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criteria 1.3.3 (Sensory Characteristics) and 4.1.3 (Status Messages).
  • Low slider contrast ratio. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criteria 1.4.3 (Contrast Minimum). 
  • There are number of links that open new windows or link to external pages without labels to communicate their intentions. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criteria 2.4.4 (Link Purpose).
  • For some non-text content, no alternative text is provided. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criteria 1.1.1 (Non-text Content).
  • Some headings and labels are not informative. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criteria 2.4.6 (Headings and Labels).
  • Some contents are not robust enough to be compatible with current and future technologies. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criteria 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value)
  • Many of our older PDFs and Word documents do not meet accessibility standards - for example, they may not be structured so they’re accessible to a screen reader. This fails WCAG 4.1.2: Name, role value.

Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. For example, we have PDFs with information on how users can access our services, and forms published as Word documents. 
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our service. 

Any new documents or replacement documents uploaded to this site will be checked against accessibility prior to upload.

Video content
We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
